Personal Development, Health and Physical Education
Years 7-10 syllabus

Schools promote the health of students within the context of their student welfare initiatives and the Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) programs. These programs provide a framework for supporting the social, physical and emotional health of students.

PDHPE curriculum provides the opportunity for young people to explore issues such as drug use, supportive relationships, sexual health and personal safety that are likely to impact on the health and wellbeing of themselves and others, now and in the future.

The combination of integrated programs and student-centred learning approaches

ensures that health and social issues are addressed in contexts that give them meaning and purpose. It empowers students to acquire deeper understanding that supports more effective development of skills.

NSW Department of Education and Communities has developed a range of resources that assist schools to deliver effective drug education and to prevent the harm that substance misuse can cause young people.
